Is TypingBIRDS free?
Yes. The typing speed test, practice lessons, Ghost Racing, leaderboard, and teacher classes are all free, with no signup required to start typing.
What is a good typing speed?
Most adults type 35–45 WPM. 60+ WPM is considered fast, and 80+ WPM is well above average for most jobs. See our full breakdown by age and profession for specifics.
Can I practice typing in Punjabi?
Yes, two ways. For everyday practice, switch the language picker to Punjabi and race in AnmolLipi-style Gurmukhi. For Punjab government exams, use the dedicated PSSSB typing test, which uses Raavi Unicode on an InScript keyboard. Raavi and AnmolLipi are fonts, not keyboard layouts — InScript is the layout PSSSB requires.
Do I need to install the Raavi font or a Punjabi keyboard?
No. Your keystrokes are converted to Gurmukhi in the browser using the InScript layout, and the text is shown with a Gurmukhi web font, so nothing has to be downloaded or set up. The page always uses InScript — the layout PSSSB requires — regardless of what keyboard your computer has, so you can be sure you are practising the right one.
Is the PSSSB typing test on TypingBIRDS accurate?
It follows the official PSSSB instructions: 10 minutes, Raavi Unicode with an InScript keyboard, a minimum of 30 gross words per minute, at least 92% accuracy, and ten chunks that must all be typed. Scoring counts mistakes per word, with spacing errors as half mistakes, exactly as the board specifies.
Does TypingBIRDS work for classrooms and schools?
Yes. Teachers can open a free class and see every student's live WPM and accuracy on one dashboard, without collecting student email addresses or requiring signup.
What is Ghost Racing?
Ghost Racing replays your own best run as a translucent competitor in the race, so every attempt is a direct rematch against your personal best rather than a stranger.
